Linking qualitative scenarios with quantitative energy models: knowledge integration in different methodological designs

Abstract Background Linking qualitative scenarios with quantitative models is a common approach to integrate assumptions on possible future societal contexts into modeling. But reflection how and what degree knowledge effectively integrated during this endeavor does not generally take place. In paper, we reflect the performance of specific hybrid scenario (qualitative Cross-Impact Balance analysis, CIB, linked energy models) concerning integration through 11 different process steps. order guide community in applying approach, general methodological features as well design options. We conceptualize forms interdisciplinary (compiling, combining synthesizing) analyze about society uncertainty are products. addition, discuss trade-offs regarding choices integration.
